A recent report warned storm hazards and snow storms could affect over 15 million people in the United States this week.

Early December was challenging for some portions of the US as severe weather conditions with a mixture of snow and rain unloaded in the Northeast, West Coast, South Central US and Midwest.

As the holiday is in the air and many Americans are looking forward to it, the weather conditions could make it difficult for weekend shopping to buy Christmas gifts and decorations.

The Guardian and Axios recent reports (December 13, 2022) showed that the US winter advisory (As of Tuesday) could impact over 15 million people with snow storms and travel hazards.

In addition, CNN News reported that about 25 million people in the country could be affected by severe weather conditions, including potential violent tornadoes and thunderstorms.

According to the Guardian, the National Weather Service (NWS) explained that widespread weather hazards could be expected this week, bringing heavy rains and blizzard conditions.

Americans in the affected areas should prepare for possible severe weather conditions, especially tornadoes or twisters. Weather forecasts advised staying updated with the weather for storm hazards this week.

The Axios forecast added that portions of the Midwest and Great Plains suffered from snow storms. On the other hand, the Guardian reported that residents near the Rockies and Northern Plains should stay alert in blizzard conditions.

According to the Guardian, other portions of the United States could also experience the following weather conditions:

  • In portions of Louisiana that experienced tornadoes and Texas, the report said heavy rain, tornadoes and flooding could emerge on Tuesday.
  • The NWS forecast also said that ice could form and 45mph wind gusts could emerge in portions of Minnesota, South Dakota, and Iowa, which could cause widespread power outages, travel hazards and downed trees or power lines.
  • In Southern California, beneficial rain could unfold to alleviate regions with a prolonged drought.

Significant travel delays

The weather forecast noted that the winter storms could disrupt outdoor plans and travel as the Christmas holiday comes near.

With threats of severe weather conditions, travel advisories were issued to alert motorists and residents of potential travel hazards as road conditions could become more challenging.

The Guardian reported that the Colorado Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) announced a travel advisory, alerting motorists to be extra careful on the roads. The advisory is until Thursday.

  • In addition, the report added that portions of South Dakota could experience 6 inches of snow, reminding residents and motorists that roads could be difficult to travel.

On the other hand, the report said that ice formations could emerge in Minnesota. Meanwhile, the Weather Service added that 61 cm of snow could unfold as blizzard warnings were present in portions of Colorado, Nebraska and Montana.

Cold weather preparations

The weather conditions have resulted in significant travel disruptions this week, with travel advisories issued. It is best to stay at home as the weather conditions become better.

Keeping groceries supplies and winter clothes would be essential as the threat of a winter storm could be possible this week.
