Tiny Turtles and Salmonella Threats

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevenetion (CDC) raised concerns about the health impacts of salmonella from small turtles. Having tiny turtles can bring risks of salmonella at home, and it is illegal to sell as pets across the United States.

According to recent reports, salmonella can make people sick. Patients can people diarrhea for four to seven days. There are times when the outbreak can cause hospitalization due to severe cases, particularly for older adults, people with medical conditions, and children.

Exposure to salmonella by touching contaminated areas can happen because tiny turtles can spread germs. As a result, homeowners should avoid buying small turtles that are less than four inches long.

The CDC also advises people to sanitize when they become exposed to small turtles. Children should avoid snuggling or cuddling with small turtles like kissing. For owners, it is best to always monitor your tanks, and clean them from time to time. The best tank cleaning is to keep away from the kitchen or indoors to avoid the spread of germs.
