Dogs. An unusual respiratory illness hit dogs in parts of US states, especially in Oregon, Colorado and New Hampshire. Pet owners should check their pets, especially if they become sick.

Based on recent reports, pet owners should stay alert for the symptoms of mysterious respiratory illnesses:

  • Sneezing
  • Eye irritation and discharge
  • Coughing
  • Nasal discharge
  • Lethargy

When the dogs become infected, they can become very sick within 24 to 36 hours. It can be more challenging for the pet owners if they are left unattended.

Alarmingly, the dogs did not respond to antibiotics to treat the harmful respiratory illness. Veterinarians and the Department of Agriculture's National Veterinary Services Laboratory are working to find ways to test and treat the severe infection.

According to the recent news, the Oregon Department of Agriculture documented about 200 cases of the said disease.

Experts also advised pet owners to stay calm and ensure that they are vaccinated to prevent respiratory illness infection.
