Severe Weather System in Parts of Western Virginia and Ohio With Strong Winds and Warm Temperature in Reno, Tahoe on Mother’s Day

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for portions of Lorain County until 7:45 p.m., as well as a tornado watch for much of Northeast Ohio until 9 p.m.

A storm system capable of creating a tornado was detected near Wellington, or 12 miles southwest of Elyria, at 7:10 p.m., heading northeast at 45 mph.

The weather service stated that radar showed rotation and issued a warning for quarter-sized hail.

Also, National Weather Service predicts strong winds Thursday and Friday, with gusts reaching 45 mph on Thursday and 55 mph on Friday, as well as small precipitation in Nevada and Northern California.

Those trapped without cover will be at risk from flying debris. Mobile houses will sustain damage or be demolished. Roofs, windows, and automobiles will sustain damage. Trees are likely to be damaged.

The tornado warning extends over 18 counties in Northeast Ohio, as per WTRF.

The weather service anticipates wind gusts of 34 knots or higher on Lake Erie, and small ships may be destroyed by momentarily stronger winds and abruptly higher waves.

Clouds will cover the whole area throughout your day today, so the sunlight will be scarce.

Later afternoon and evening, a strong cold front will pass over Ohio and West Virginia.

A few showers may begin in the afternoon, but the most intense showers and storms are likely to arrive between 3 to 5 pm.

Those will become more dispersed around 8 p.m., but forecasters say that there will still have sporadic rain/storms until approximately 2 a.m. tomorrow.

Weather forecast in Reno, Tahoe

Traffic will be difficult both in the air and on the ground due to the winds; regions of flying dust are expected and might impede travel on Interstate 80, U.S. 50, and Highway 95, as per Reno Gazette Journal

The weekend will be windy, with a powerful cold front moving in on Sunday.

The front will bring windy weather and a maximum temperature of roughly 51 degrees in Reno, which is about 20 degrees below typical.

Sunday's maximum temperature in Truckee will be 39 degrees. Rain and snow showers are also expected as a result of the front.

While the amounts will be minor, there is a good likelihood that the valley bottom will be covered in snow by Sunday evening. It is not predicted that the snow will stick.

Temperatures will stay far below average for the rest of the week, with peaks in the 50s and lows in the 30s.

Light rains are expected to persist throughout Tuesday, with some locations seeing evening freezing temperatures on Sunday and Monday nights.

The major aspects of the major weather setup will be strong winds contained within any developing severe storms and the possibility of hail production.

A rogue tornado or two is unlikely, but not impossible.

Extreme storms have caused power disruptions in some sections of Ohio and West Virginia.
