The latest report showed that alarming ocean heating can help supercharge challenging weather conditions exacerbated by climate change and global warming.

Global warming and climate change can intensify extreme weather events, including the following:

  • Hurricanes and storms
  • Drought
  • Heatwaves

In the recent report, 2023 was confirmed as the hottest year on record. El Nino and climate contributed to the scorching heat and rapid rise of global temperatures. Extreme heat is bad news due to potential health and environmental effects.

Prolonged drought can significantly affect the economy, causing food and water crisis. Wildlife is also impacted, with a possibility of deadly wildfires due to dry vegetation.

In addition, researchers explained that temperatures are increasing year by year. The increasing greenhouse gas emissions contributed to hotter temperatures exacerbated by climate change effects.

Rain in New York. With 2023 as the hottest on record, the latest report showed that alarming ocean heating can help supercharge weather conditions.  Meanwhile, warmer ocean temperatures can threaten many marine species and animals, especially coral reef systems. In Florida, some coral reefs have turned white due to temperature rise and many suffer from health decline.

The research findings were published in the journal Advances in Atmospheric Sciences. Researchers monitored the rising sea surface temperatures and warming events. Global warming and the El Nino phenomenon helped with the increasing temperatures.

The event can lead to warmer water temperatures on the ocean surface in the Pacific Ocean, affecting the weather patterns. In the recent NWN reports, experts explained that climate change can give energy for devastating storms and hurricanes.

With the frequent warming of oceans, it can supercharge challenging weather events. The weather will be deadly, extreme and heavier than usual, causing flooding, landslides and significant impacts on properties.

Furthermore, cities should have better forecasting and weather prediction to prepare for deadly weather events worsened by climate change. The high-burning fuels can ignite more global extreme weather events.

Frequent shifts in weather events will make it more difficult for many communities to develop plans and prepare. The United Nations (UN) urged businesses and countries to transition to environment-friendly policies and reduce burning of fuels.

Climate Change Effects on Precipitation in the US

In the latest report, researchers highlighted that climate change can affect the precipitation patterns in the US and cause frequent river basin flooding. People in low-lying areas are at risk of moderate to deadly flooding due to river rise.

As a result, homeowners and cities should adopt policies that protect from widespread flooding. The country has also suffered from the hottest temperatures and raging wildfires, including in California and the Phoenix area.
