A tragic incident killed a 27-year-old man in Western Nebraska after lightning hit him while trying to check on cattle, making him the second lightning-related fatality in the state since 2006.

The National Weather Service (NWS) recently reported that Lightning Safety Awareness Week reminded Americans to be extra careful of lightning. Lightning could result in death or a dangerous situation,

Man died from lightning in Western Nebraska

According to Accuweather,  a man from Western Nebraska, 27, he suffered from a lightning strike. He tried to check on cattle after he was hit.

The report explained that severe thunderstorms, including the Southwest, could likely unload in portions of Nebraska.

Furthermore, the National Lightning Safety Council report explained that the latest lightning death recorded the sixth lightning death in the country. In Nebraska, the data showed that it would be the second fatality in the state.

Recently, AccuWeather also reported that a boy was struck by lightning in Texas while walking home. The boy, later on, died from lightning injuries.

According to the report, the victim was identified as Grayson Boggs, 6 years old and from Valley Mills, Texas.

Before the victim died, he went into a coma in the intensive care unit. The report said that Grayson Boggs suffered from brain damage.

The victim tried to survive for several weeks.

Lightning safety

The National Weather Service (NWS) reported lightning safety tips to prevent injuries and damages from lightning strikes.

According to the advisory, people should immediately seek shelter, staying inside a secured area for at least 30 minutes.

Furthermore, the advisory added that people should avoid electronic materials or near the power lines when lightning strikes occur.

Meanwhile, the American Red Cross explained that thunderstorms could result in a dangerous situation, which could lead to death. Lightning strikes could also impact power lines.

Red Cross added the importance of preparedness to react to challenging weather and lightning immediately. The report noted the importance of staying updated with the weather conditions, especially for possible severe thunderstorms.

The advisory said that multiple information could help homeowners to become aware of the challenging weather conditions.

Furthermore, homeowners should also keep emergency kits when severe thunderstorms unfold. Power outages are possible.

The recommended emergency kits are battery-powered flashlights, radios, bottled water, extra batteries, mobile phones, bottled water, non-perishable goods and medicines.

It is also best that people should keep away from water when thunder roars. When the weather could unleash severe thunderstorms in your area, it is best to reschedule your outdoor activities or travel.

Severe thunderstorms could result in heavy rain, damaging wind gusts and isolated tornadoes. The challenging weather could cause possible injuries and damages.

Homeowners should also check their homes for possible repairs or if the roof could handle the severe weather conditions.
