Winter Weather Advisory in Effect Over Parts of Ohio as Snow, Gusty Winds Bring Frigid Temps at 20 Degrees

Snow and strong winds have caused temperatures in some areas of Ohio to drop to 20 degrees, prompting officials to put a Winter Weather Advisory in effect.

For Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula counties from late afternoon today until Sunday afternoon, a winter weather advisory has been issued.

Today's highs will reach the lower 30s with gusty winds and up to an inch of snow. Lows tonight will be in the lower 20s with one to three inches of snow expected and gusty winds.

Expect brisk winds and 2 to 4 inches of snow on Sunday, with highs in the mid-30s. Lows on Sunday night will be mostly clear and in the mid-20s.

Monday's highs will be in the mid-40s thanks to the sunshine. Tuesday will have partly cloudy skies and highs in the lower 50s. On Wednesday, the region will experience partly sunny skies with highs once again in the lower 50s. On Thursday, a few showers will be present, 19News reports.

Lake Effect Snow, 6 Inch Accumulations

The National Weather Service forecasts that this weekend will bring lake effect snow, which will result in total snow accumulations of between two and four inches along and near Lake Erie's shoreline and 3 to 6 inches in the higher terrains of Lake and Erie counties. Snow squalls can produce wind gusts of up to 40 mph.

Travelers are advised by weather officials to prepare for slick roads and limited visibility.

Peak snowfall rates reaching one inch per hour are anticipated in lake effect bands tonight until early Sunday morning, according to officials.

The NWS also issued several Special Weather Statements as near Glouster, a snow squall was moving east at least 30 mph. In this squall, visibility will quickly decrease to under a quarter of a mile.

For those who must travel into or through the hazardous snow squall, use extra caution, officials advised. Accidents are more likely to occur when visibility rapidly changes and there are potentially slick roads. Delaying travel until the storm passes through the area in question is the best option.

Meanwhile, officials from AccuWeather are reminding individuals who are sensitive to medical triggers to take the proper precaution and medication as triggers for arthritis, sinus pressure, and flu are at high levels as the weather brings in frigid temperatures.

Although arthritis triggers will be back to low levels tomorrow, they will jump to extreme levels by Friday. Experts say that there is a very high likelihood that arthritis pain will be brought on by the weather. Affected individuals are advised to take medication for arthritis to lessen symptoms and keep moving by stretching and engaging in low-impact exercises.

Common cold triggers are at very high levels today and will wane to low levels by Monday. Migraine triggers are at low levels.

Most of the allergens are also at low levels, except for dust and dander, which is at very high levels. This will remain so until Monday and will only wane down to low levels by Thursday.
