California Dangerous Storm Causes Widespread Power Outages, Snow, Rain

Recent weather reports showed that the winter storms in parts of California unloaded snow and heavy rain that resulted in significant power outages and flooding.

Weather agencies monitored the coast-to-coast winter storms that caused concerns for possible road hazards and power outages in the Midwest, Northeast and Southern California.

In the previous advisory, the National Prediction Center explained the developing storm in parts of California, bringing freezing rain and snow.

In January, CNN reported the relentless rain in California that caused dangerous flooding.

However, the rain became helpful in addressing the prolonged drought conditions in the region.

AccuWeather and the Associated Press (AP) reported frigid conditions in parts of California, as snow and rain caused flooding and power outages.

The significant rain and snow in California caused multiple road hazards for motorists.

The AP reported that the Los Angeles Fire Department had to use a helicopter to rescue affected homeless stranded in flood control basin areas.

Furthermore, CBS News said three motorhomes were impacted by heavy rain near Santa Clara River.

The weather update said that no casualties or injuries were reported.

AccuWeather reported that Ventura County recorded flash flooding due to the storm's rain.

Meanwhile, ABC News reported that the winter storm managed to unleash rare snow in California, adding that about 80 million are under threat of wind to winter storms.

Affected residents should observe the weather conditions, especially after the storm.

It is best to look for potential damage to the roof and house.

The devastating storm also raised concerns over hypothermia. Homeowners should ensure to bring their family members to a nearby hospital if they show signs of cold-related health risks.

On the other hand, Reuters said that power outages were recorded in parts of California after the storm impacted significant power lines.

According to Reuters, about 85,000 had no power in parts of Los Angeles (Saturday) after the storms unleashed heavy rain and significant snow.

The forecast in Detroit said about 400,000 had no power (Saturday).

Roads were also affected by the heavy snow and freezing rain on Interstate 5.

Meanwhile, the National Prediction Center reported that the West Coast Storm can still unload rain and snow on the West Coast.

The forecasts said Northern and Central California would notice heavy snow and problematic wind gusts.

Blizzard-like conditions are also possible. The forecast advised car owners traveling across West Coast states to bring winter driving supplies.

Possible tornadoes in the South

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service (NWS) reported possible derecho or damaging thunderstorms this week.

In addition, a tornado watch is present in parts of Western Oklahoma, Southern Kansas and OK/TX Panhandle.

Motorists and homeowners in the South should keep updated with the weather conditions, especially the severe thunderstorms and isolated tornadoes.

Tornado outbreaks could become challenging and dangerous, especially at night.
