Californians began the year with moisture-packed storms that unleashed heavy rain and mountain snow, which could persist until the third week of January.

The heavy rain resulted in widespread flooding and immediate evacuations. Damage to properties and casualties were also recorded due to the severe weather risks.

CNN News explained that the heavy rain in California became worst after the emergence of atmospheric rivers and bomb cyclones. The combination resulted in relentless heavy rain in the region.

On the other hand, portions of the Midwest suffered from heavy snow. In Colorado, Denver, and Michigan, the heavy snow and freezing rainfall led to road accidents and significant travel delays.

The recent report from the National Weather Service (NWS) added that the winter storm would track portions of the Northeast.

Much-needed relief from storms

The challenging weather conditions on West Coast and California caused concerns among residents and weather agencies.

AccuWeather's latest report explained that heavy rain, mountain snow and damaging wind gusts pounded many properties and homes.

Based on the weather pattern this January, AccuWeather said that drier conditions would unfold in San Diego, Los Angeles, Fresno, San Francisco, and Medford.

  • The weather forecast added that unseasonably cold is expected in Boise, Casper and Cedar City.
  • Meanwhile, Saturday's outlook showed that Sacramento and Los Angeles residents would notice dry conditions this weekend.
  • The damaging winds could weaken this Saturday morning.
  • Meanwhile, the forecast for the weather next week would notice dangerous crosswinds that could uproot trees.

Residents and motorists could observe low humidity, especially in Los Angeles.

Drought conditions and heavy rain

California suffered from extreme drought, with reservoirs reaching their very limit. However, NBC Bay Area explained that the weeks of heavy rain in California helped relieve extreme and exceptional drought in the region.

The rain and heavy snow brought improved drought conditions. Although the weather became chaotic to many travelers, the forecast added that the moisture-packed storm brought beneficial train.

However, the BBC report said that the heavy rain in California would not be enough to address the prolonged drought. On the contrary, rain would be ideal for temporary relief from extreme drought.

Although the weather conditions would become better in California, residents should stay updated with weather updates.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), coastal hazards are present in portions of California. On the other hand, NWS said that freezing warnings could emerge this Friday.

In addition, the report said the weather would become colder or drop at night.
