Alarming Climate Crisis Contributed to Most Extreme Weather Events in the Past Few Years, Report Shows

The climate crisis contributed to extreme weather events that unleashed globally, causing record-breaking heat, heatwaves, prolonged drought, relentless rain and severe weather conditions.

Human-caused climate change has been the main concern of researchers and scientists due to its impact on extreme weather events.

Many of the extreme events resulted in catastrophic aftermath or widespread damage.

In the United States, NOAA and CNN's recent report showed that the U.S. suffered from severe to extreme natural disasters aggravated by climate change.

In addition, the report raised concerns over the impact on human lives, biodiversity and economies.

Based on the 2022 records, extreme weather disasters in the United States cost about $165 billion in damage.

For the past seven years, CNN reported it reached $1 trillion in damages. In addition, many families were displaced or relocated.

Meanwhile, a previous report from The Guardian revealed that European countries recorded the warmest beginning of the year.

The report said that the Netherlands, Poland, Latvia, Belarus, the Czech Republic, Lithuania and Denmark had the warmest January 2023.

The warm conditions in Europe forced ski resorts to close due to a lack of snow temporarily.

NOAA climate scientist Stephanie Hering explained the alarming rate of extreme natural events, especially extreme heat.

According to The Guardian, the analysis in 2021 and 2022 revealed that global heating played a crucial role in extreme events that unfolded.

News reports in the United States noted the prolonged drought in California.

In addition, AccuWeather reported that the region experienced two weeks of relentless storms unloading heavy rain and damaging winds.

However, the BBC explained that the storms in California could only offer short-term relief, noting that the drought could be addressed by years of severe wet weather.

The climate crisis worsens the problem of drought in Nevadah and California.

Meanwhile, the report added that the United Kingdom suffers from excessive to extreme rainfall due to the issue of global heating.

In China in February 2021, human-caused climate change aggravated the hot weather.

Moreover, the main culprit is human-caused climate change which influences extreme weather events.

Using advanced technology, the report noted that scientists and experts could point out the impact of climate change on disasters.

This year, it is expected that more extreme weather events could unleash globally. Therefore, the commitment of countries and stakeholders is crucial in mitigating the impact of climate change.

Poorer countries would be more vulnerable to the threat of climate change and natural disasters.

They could suffer the most because they lack the important technologies for disaster preparedness. The cost of extreme weather events could affect lives, economies and properties.

Using climate models, conserving and protecting trees and the world's oceans is essential to mitigate the worst impact of climate change and global warming.
