Larry the cat went viral on social media in recent days after being seen chasing off a fox outside 10 Downing Street in London, England.

It is not clear how the fox stumbled upon the premises of the United Kingdom's Prime Minister's Office.

Fortunately, the chief mouser was out there to protect the vicinity of the government office, which was also stalked by other animals in the past including a pigeon.

In December 2020, Larry was also filmed in a scuffle with a pigeon.

The tabby cat stalked the bird outside the prime minister's official residence, where members of the press watched and recorded the incident with their cameras.

The mouser was also seen interacting with other cats in the neighborhood since its decade-long government career.

The viral video was posted by the official Twitter page of Larry the Cat earlier this week with a caption of "fox off."

The 1-minute footage showed Larry slowly walking towards the fox amidst of what appears to be a nighttime scrimmage between the two animals.

It ended up with Larry the Downing Street cat winning the so-called "political catfight" in the heart of the British government on Monday evening, October 10.

The footage garnered almost 100,000 likes, more than 10,000 retweets, and almost 2,500 quote tweets as of Thursday, October 13.

The viral tweet also received multiple feedback in the comment section, where a majority of Twitter users supporting the UK government cat.

Other comments warned Larry to be careful as the short clip shows that he was likely chasing an adult fox.

Nevertheless, the cat was commended for his bravery during the fox chase, which ended up the fox running away as Larry stood his ground.

Larry's fox fight was captured on camera by Sky News outside the official residence of the incumbent UK Prime Minister Liz Truss, according to the Huffington Post.

Larry The Downing Street Cat

Since 2011, the British government appointed Larry as the first new chief mouser at No. 10 after replacing its predecessor and previous incumbent, Sybil the cat, who became tenured in September 2007 and retired in January 2009.

Sybil was the first chief mouser for ten years following the retirement of Humphrey the cat in 1997.

According to the UK government's website, Larry spends most of his days greeting guests to the residence, inspecting security defenses, and testing antique furniture for purposes of napping quality.

His daily responsibilities as the chief mouser includes implementing tactics against mouse occupancy inside the house.

Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office

In his official title, Larry became the "Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office" since February 15 in 2011.

The appointment came after the feline was recruited from Battersea Dogs & Cats Home following recommendations for his exemplary mousing skills.

While there are reported instances where Larry had some lazy day moments, the chief mouser still has proven to be an effective part of the UK administration.

Larry the cat is currently 14 years old and is believed to have been born in January 2007.
