Clara Foods is using the influence of precision fermentation technology to develop animal-free egg proteins.While focusing on the North American market, the start-up have their eyes set on taking over Europe.

Hatching The Magic Egg Proteins​

There have been growing agendas around the world on advancing environmental sustainability, health, and animal welfare. Over the years, the egg replacement market has grown; it is expected to register a CAGR (Compound annual growth rate) of 5.8% from 2019 to 2026, with an expected value of $1.53 billion. 

Clara's Foods has taken a unique approach towards this huge market by concentrating on making identical natural proteins found in everyday eggs through fermentation.The technique to creating these eggs is making sure they look, taste, and can be used like real chicken eggs. After the eggs are created with advanced ingredients and processes, consumers would hopefully accept them. 

According to a statement by Arturo Elizondo, the world's craving for eggs is "incredibly unsustainable" "There are more chickens in the U.S. than people, each confined to the area of a piece of paper and never seeing daylight." he also added.

Clara's Food Precise Fermentation Process

While consumers assume Clara's eggs are prepared using yoke and egg white, the process is much more sophisticated.Clara starts the fermentation process with two key ingredients: Yoke and Sugar. The next step is the use of fermentation technologies and advanced yeast engineering which will select the perfect amount of yeast needed, this process is quite intriguing. 

The company makes use of traditional bioreactors in turning selected proteins into ingredients that can later be combined and used in a preferable way.

The Company's Massive Take Over Plans

Clara Foods signed a global partnership agreement in 2019 with Igredion (a leading global ingredients solutions company) together they will improve, market, and distribute the products.

This success gave Clara Foods the license to work with new bakeries and markets around the globe. The company is working hard to get its products to as many consumers as possible, and its plans to take over Europe is becoming a reality. Clara has succeeded in using their ingredients to make scrambled egg alternatives, pancakes, and vegan meringues.

The investors joining forces with Clara Foods have a massive impact on the growth of the company and how accessible and affordable their products will become in the nearest future. Bringing about Clara's mission of replacing animal agriculture with animal-free eggs.

Long Term Plan

The company's big idea is to reach everywhere eggs are used, mainly places that are fermentation friendly, Europe is a huge fan. The company doesn't see regulation as a huge threat in the US. 

The Startup has obtained self GRAS: this is generally recognizing its products as safe, it has also submitted GRAS applications with FDA (the United States Food and Drug Administration).
