Multiple River Flood Warnings have been issued in Texas as a result of rounds and rounds of heavy rain.

Relentless Rain Persists in Texas

In South Texas, especially the San Antonio region, where first responders performed many swift-water rescues over Mother's Day weekend, days of nonstop rain have caused flash floods. Additionally, the FOX Forecast Center is worried that more flooding could happen on Monday because of the stormy weather.

Concerns about flooding are spreading beyond Texas. Additionally, problems from parts of the central and southern Plains through the mid-Mississippi Valley, which span from Springfield, Missouri, to St. Louis and could result from rounds of heavy rain.

Many areas of south Texas experienced heavy rain as a system of strong storms swept across the plains. Some places, including a portion of San Antonio, saw effects including flooded buildings and closed roads. Rain threatened to make things worse, according to The Weather Channel.

The Missouri Department of Transportation reportedly shut down stretches of Interstate 55 after water started to flood the road, according to KTVI in St. Louis.

Although there were miles of backed-up traffic, according to KTVI, the roads had been reopened by 9 PM CDT.

Multiple River Flood Warnings in Texas

On Monday, Texas faces multiple flash flood threats

In the Lone Star State, the day began pretty calmly, but as it goes on and we head into the afternoon and evening, heavy rain and thunderstorm activity are predicted to pick back up.

The hazard of flash floods is greater in South Texas, from Austin and Houston all the way through San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and Brownsville, despite the possibility of rain in many sections of the state.

The difficult part is that when daytime heating is paired with a lot of Gulf moisture, it will result in really heavy downpours, according to FOX Weather meteorologist Britta Merwin. This means that even while the pattern with these afternoon storms is more summerlike, everything that has built up to this point means that one summer storm in the afternoon can result in further flooding.

People must maintain caution for this reason, Merwin continued.

Due to the recent heavy rain, there are numerous river flood warnings in force throughout southeast and eastern Texas. Flood Watches are also in effect over central Oklahoma through Monday afternoon due to the possibility of flooding caused by heavy rain that may run off into nearby rivers, creeks, and streams.

Flooding Through the Midweek

Starting on Tuesday and lasting through Wednesday, more rain is likely to fall across South Texas as well as along the Gulf Coast into the valleys of the Mississippi and Tennessee.

Maybe some good news: The risk of flash flooding has decreased significantly over the past few days, as of Monday morning. But be on the lookout since flash flooding could still happen.

In Texas, areas San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Houston, and Brownsville might see flash flooding.

If heavy rain develops, Jackson and southern Mississippi may also experience some flooding. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the risk will reach Birmingham and Montgomery, Alabama, in the north and east, FOX Weather reports.
