The latest report revealed a worrying result: the world's oceans reached the hottest on record in 2022, suffering from prolonged human-caused climate change. Researchers raised concerns over the potential impact on marine ecosystems and natural disasters.Read more here.

For many years, oceans have been crucial in fighting and mitigating the impact of climate change. It traps the excess heat, which reaches a whopping 90%. It helps the environment and humans by addressing human-caused climate change and global warming.

However, oceans are not also safe from the effect of global warming and climate change. According to a recent analysis published on The Guardian's website, the report emphasized that oceans reached the hottest record in 2022.

The warming of world oceans could impact marine ecosystems. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) explained that any change in ocean temperatures could affect weather patterns and aquatic animals.

EPA added that oceans are crucial the mitigate the impact of climate being a large storage of carbon dioxide. However, increasing ocean temperatures and dissolved carbon could affect the water, making it more acidic.

Many organisms and species in the oceans could not deal with rising temperatures, resulting in widespread damage to corals and marine biodiversity.

Climate change and extreme weather events

Moreover, The Guardian explained that oceans could influence weather patterns. For example, the warming of oceans could unload intense and frequent storms and hurricanes. EPA report added that warmer waters in oceans could unleash damaging storms.

Meanwhile, NOAA said that ocean warming could impact the sea ice. The warmer temperatures could disrupt the ice. Meanwhile, the melting of ice could affect ocean circulation.

The report noted that oceans absorbed more at a whopping ten zeta joules of heat in 2022 than the records in 2021.

The researchers employed new instruments to determine the impact of warming oceans. The international team behind the study explained that greenhouse gases affect the water cycles in the world.

Professor John Abraham, the researcher, explained that extreme weather events unfold due to the ocean, affecting many countries and wildlife. Abraham is also from the University of St Thomas in Minnesota.

Warming waters could help unfold more hurricanes with damaging storms and winds. The report from the US NOAA highlighted how the climate crisis contributed to extreme weather events globally in 2022.

The research was also published in Advances in Atmospheric Science journal.

Meanwhile, the NOAA's recent report emphasized that the severe and extreme weather events in the United States were worrying as the climate crisis continued to unload extreme events in the United States.

Climate change has contributed to weather disasters in the U.S. A recent repors from CNN and NOAA explained that the cost of extreme weather in the U.S. was $165 billion in damage in 2022. Hurricanes resulted in widespread damage, travel disruptions and casualties.
