Lake Effect Snow and wind chills in the single digits are expected in parts of the Midwest of the US, according to forecasts. Increasing snowfall and slick roads will make commuting difficult.

Friday Forecast

For the majority of the day, there will be lake effect snow showers along and to the north of the Indiana Toll Road. On untreated roads or beneath thicker bursts of snow, snow will build up.

Roads will become slick and occasionally covered in snow as a result. On the roads, it is advised to drive cautiously and with extra room. In addition to locking in the lake effect snow showers, the persistent west winds will cause wind chills to remain in the teens for the majority of the day. Be sure to bundle up because the highs are only in the 20s. 28 degrees will be the high today, and there will be 10 to 15 mph west winds.

Overnight, there will be a slight change in the direction of the winds, ending any lake-effect snow showers. As temperatures drop into the teens under mostly cloudy skies, some areas of the roads may continue to be slick.

Winds will continue to be gusty, so most people will probably experience wind chills that flirt with the single digits tonight and into Saturday morning. Before you leave for the night, wrap up in warm clothing because the area will experience a Low of 15 degrees as well as winds to the southwest at 10 to 15 mph.

Weather-Forecast data shows that Friday temperatures can go as low as 3 degrees.

Weekend Forecast

On Saturday, the morning will be mostly cloudy and breezy. With wind chills in the single digits throughout the early morning, temperatures start in the teens. By the afternoon, temperatures will rise back into the upper 20s, but wind chills will stay in the teens all day.

The morning's mostly cloudy skies will give way to another round of lake effect snow showers by the afternoon and evening. The change in winds will make it possible for snow showers to return in Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan. A few more inches of snow could gather beneath the snow bands, quickly covering the roads in snow and making them slick. 29° will be the temperature high, with westward 10 to 15 mph winds.

On Sunday, the morning Lake Effect snow showers will end, and the rest of the day will be cold and windy. 20-degree highs as road crews work to remove any lake effect snow that has fallen. The majority of the day will see wind chills in the teens once more.
