Heat Dome in the Pacific Northwest to Shift in the US East Coast in Early August

A heat dome over the Pacific Northwest will shift toward the US East Coast during the first week of August, according to a new weather forecast.

US meteorologists said that the looming extreme heat will be one of the hottest events brought by the ongoing summer season.

High temperatures will reach as far as New York City and other areas nationwide.

In recent days, US weather authorities have warned of the persistence of the heat wave in some parts of the country, including the states of California, Washington, and Oregon in the Western US.

Due to the approaching extreme weather event, forecasters said it will be the resumption of hot and dry conditions following the Midwest and the Northeast's recent break.

The weather system responsible for the record-breaking temperatures, wherein some reached over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, will be the same threat that the Eastern Seaboard will face in the coming days starting Monday, August 1.

During this period, authorities have warned of health hazards posed by the excessive heat.

This threat includes heat stroke and hyperthermia, which were responsible for related deaths last year.

In late June of 2021, an unprecedented heat wave was responsible for the deaths hundreds of people in the Northwest, as well as in southwestern province of British Columbia in Canada.

The natural disaster occurred for at least a week, making the death toll increase gradual, rather than a one-time event.

West to East Heat Dome

According to AccuWeather meteorologists, the "massive bubble of hot air" from the heat dome will cause an above-average temperatures of between five to 15 degrees Fahrenheit; in areas from Minneapolis, Chicago, and The Big Apple.

The US weather forecasting company said the first week of August should anticipate unusually high temperatures covering a vast region from the Dakotas to the East Coast.

With this, temperatures could swell to over 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

The mentioned metropolitan areas, such as Minneapolis and Chicago, will be the hotspot of the intense heat by Wednesday, August 3.

These forecasts were according to AccuWeather's Long-Range Meteorologist Brandon Buckingham and Meteorologist La Tory Thornton, who said parts of the Midwest could experience a temperature spike starting Tuesday, August 2.

Pacific Northwest Excessive Heat

The National Weather Service (NWS) said on Saturday, July 30, that excessive heat will still persist over the Northwest and may continue this weekend until Sunday, July 31.

Similar to recent weather reports of NWS' Weather Prediction Center (WPC), excessive heat warnings and heat advisories remain in place for a vast portion of the region.

The AccuWeather forecast is also similar with the NWS' weather outlook for next week, stating the heat is expected to strengthen and expand eastward; where it will gradually rebuild over the central and northern Plains.

The US weather agency also stated that heavy rain is occurring in the Southwest US and potential severe storms is underway for the upper Midwest this weekend.

In Kentucky, flooding due to torrential rain has increased the death toll to 25, according to CNN.
