The National Weather Service (NWS) reported that a flood watch was issued in Central New Mexico due to the excessive rainfall.

The increased moisture in the region will bring heavy rainfall and possible flooding over New Mexico.

Communities near the affected areas should prepare for possible flooding, especially for people in flood-prone or low-lying places.

Flooding can be likely in the following:

  • East Slopes Sangre de Cristo Mountains
  • Southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains

In other parts of the US, Utah, Wyoming and Colorado are also at risk of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall this weekend.

In the Northeast, the cold front and Hurricane Lee will help bring rainy conditions to the region, including Massachusetts.

Recently, Massachusetts experienced severe flooding due to the heavy rainfall. Residents near the Barrett Pond Dam were advised to evacuate due to possible severe flooding.

On the weekend, rainy conditions with chances of thunderstorms are forecast in Portland, Boston, Halifax, Washington, Pittsburgh and Detroit.

This Saturday, dangerous conditions on beaches could be possible in parts of Maine, New England, Rhode Island, Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina.

The waves are expected to reach eight to 13 feet. A high surf alert is forecast in the affected region.

Hurricane Lee: New Developments from the storm

Hurricane Lee could land over New Brunswick, parts of Nova Scotia or Eastern Maine in the coming days. As of September 14, tropical storm conditions are likely in parts of Bermuda.

On Saturday, challenging hurricane conditions could bring coastal flooding and heavy rain in Western Nova Scotia, Eastern Maine and Southern Brunswick.

A Hurricane Watch is also present to alert the residents about the stormy conditions.

Heavy rainfall could unload this weekend in Atlantic Canada and New England, as a storm watch is in effect. Dangerous storm surge could hit the following areas:

  • Southeastern Massachusetts
  • Cape Cod
  • Nantucket
