College Wrestler Got Into a Brawl with Bear to Rescue Teammate

A college wrestler attempted to save his buddy from a vicious attack by a Grizzly bear. After being attacked by the bear on a Wyoming hunting trip, both guys were sent to the hospital with significant injuries.

Out Hunting

While out hunting on Saturday afternoon in Cody, Wyoming, two collegiate wrestlers were attacked by a grizzly bear and sustained significant injuries, as per the Huffington Post.

According to a fundraising organized by their school, Kendell Cummings and Brady Lowry, both students at Wyoming's Northwest College, were on a hunting trip with two other wrestling teammates that they had been separated.

The "sudden, unexpected meeting" between Cummings and Lowry and the wild animal occurred west of the Bobcat Houlihan trailhead in the Shoshone National Forest, according to the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.

With the aid of their two companions, a local resident and another hunter in the area, they were able to phone 911 following the attack and meet a search and rescue team at the trailhead.

While Lowry was transported by ambulance to Cody Regional Health, Cummings was evacuated to a medical facility in Billings, Montana.

Lowry spent a few hours there before being evacuated as well to Billings.

In Billings, both students endured several procedures. According to the school fundraiser, they should fully recover.

The pupils said in interviews that the bear attacked Lowry first after making an abrupt appearance.

Cummings intervened to try to free his friend from the bear and was successful in diverting the creature's attention.

Wrestling With the Grizzly

In an interview with Cowboy State Daily on Monday, Cummings claimed, "I grabbed and tugged him hard by the ear. I could feel when he'd bite down on my bones, and they'd kind of crunch, and I could hear when his teeth would strike my head."

According to Lowry, he owed his friend his life.

He told Cowboy State Daily, "I can't convey how grateful I am for him. I have no idea what I will give him in return. He is all I owe."

According to KSL news, the bear originally grabbed Lowry's arm and violently shook it until it shattered. Lowry rolled up on the ground as the bear charged him and curled into a ball.

Cummings' attempts to move the bear away from his companion resulted in lacerations all over his face and on his arm and leg.

Jim Zeigler, their coach, informed Fox News that they would miss the remainder of the campaign.

Bear in the Vicinity

According to local accounts, there may be six to ten bears in the vicinity where the wrestlers were attacked according to the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.

The department said that the South Fork and North Fork of the Shoshone River, the Clarks Fork River, and the Greybull River drainages had recently seen a lot of bear activity at the areas.

Game and Fish advises anybody enjoying themselves outside in these regions to exercise caution and bear awareness.
