The Met Office has warned that "heavier rain and strong winds" will move fast eastwards on Friday, with highs of 17C expected in regions ,such as Southampton and Plymouth, in the southeast of England.

A temperature of 16 degrees Celsius is expected in London, 15 degrees Celsius in Belfast, and 14 degrees Celsius in Glasgow.

She stated that the greatest winds will hit northwestern Scotland and Northern Ireland, where severe gales of up to 55mph are expected on Friday morning and afternoon.

There will also be high gusts over the south coast on Friday afternoon and evening, with gales possible for a brief time.

She continued, saying: "We anticipate the strong Atlantic jet stream to strengthen and drive a deep region of low pressure over the Atlantic, bringing rain and high winds to the UK on Friday," as per Sky News.

It is expected to produce some of the heaviest rain and strongest winds witnessed this season.

Saturday will be a cloudy day with blustery showers and maybe some heavier rain to the south.

Britons face 'heavier' showers

Heavy rain is expected in several areas of the UK on Wednesday, with temperatures falling into the single digits, as per Express.

Heavy rain is expected to fall in portions of southeast Scotland and northern England, according to the Met Office.

The Met Office issued the following prognosis for Wednesday: "A combination of sunshine and showers, most common around northwest facing shores at first, with a few showers developing inland."

Later, heavier rain and stronger winds are expected in regions of southeast Scotland and northern England.

According to the UK's national weather service, an area of cloud and rain is spreading south through the whole of England and Wales and becoming increasingly showery.

According to England's Environment Agency and Natural Resources Wales, two flood alerts are in effect in the Humber estuary from Spurn Point to Winestead Outfall and in North Wales.

Strong winds and spring tides may bring huge waves and spray overtopping on the shore, prompting the Humer estuary alert, which indicates flooding is probable.

Meanwhile, the North Wales notice has been updated with new caution.

"Be careful as sea spray and waves can be harmful and carry debris," it warned.

Temperatures are also anticipated to drop into the teens on Wednesday.

Even in the south of England, which is usually the hottest section of the nation, temperatures are expected to be about 5 degrees Celsius.

Throughout the morning, cloud and rain outbreaks in the central and southwestern portions will move away to the south. Otherwise, another day of bright periods with scattered showers developing.

Showers will shortly fade, and it will get cold over England and Wales, with patchy fog forming. Later, the far north will become rainy and windy, with strong gales in the far northwest.

Initially dry and sunny throughout the central and southern regions, then wet and windy weather sweeps east throughout the day.

On Friday, there will be sunny intervals with showers moving towards the north and west.
