If the Earth passes directly between the moon and the sun, a complete lunar eclipse occurs, casting a shadow over the satellite. The moon takes on a richer, more reddish glow as a result of this. Lunar eclipses are often referred to as "blood moon" because of their striking color.

A new lunar eclipse, also known as a "blood moon," will occur on May 26, 2021, and will be visible from parts of eastern Asia, Australia, the Pacific Ocean, and most of the Americas.

Super Blood Moon

The moon passes into Earth's shadow in space, causing a lunar eclipse. This one is known as a Super Blood Moon or Super Flower Moon, and it will be the first complete eclipse since January of this year. During the moon's orbit around the Earth, the eclipse would occur as the moon gets closer to the Earth.

According to Forbes.com, this Super Blood full moon will pass through Earth's dim central umbral shadow for 15 minutes, giving the lunar surface a reddish-copper color.

Lunar Eclipse

According to Space.com, a blood moon is when the moon passes into the darkest portion of Earth's shadow, the sky turns reddish black rather than black. The red color is caused by some radiation going into Earth's atmosphere, where it is distorted, and colors like blue and green are filtered out, leaving longer wavelengths like red.

Lunar eclipses, unlike solar eclipses, are entirely safe to see. You won't require any special glasses or a box; all you'll need are your own eyes.

On June 10, 2021, less than a month after the Super Blood Moon, the Earth will see a 'Ring Of Fire' lunar eclipse before the "Super Strawberry Moon.

Super Moon

At perigee, it appears slightly larger (a "supermoon"), and at apogee, it seems slightly smaller (a "micromoon"). These are the special lunar events based on the cycle this year:

  • The "Super Worm Moon" occurred on March 28, 2021.
  • The "Super Pink Moon" occurred on April 26, 2021.
  • The "Super Flower Moon" will appear on May 26, 2021.
  • The "Super Strawberry Moon" will occur on June 24, 2021.
