Dogs are More Than Just Pets – Here’s the Proof

Dogs have been man's faithful companion for a very, very long time. Now, in those early days, pups were more for functional purposes. They offered protection, helped with hunting, or were used to lead sleds from one place to another. Of course, these times are far beyond us.

Thus, the relationship between humans and dogs evolved along with everything else. While they were once simply pets, they now occupy a much larger space within people's lives. If this seems incredible to you, then you haven't fully grasped just how wonderful these furry friends can be.

So, if you need proof, here it is:

The Offer Unconditional Love

How many people can you truly say love you unconditionally? If you are being totally honest, the number isn't that high. This is because most humans care for each other because of the relationship they share. Thus, this is a bond that can be broken at any time.

This isn't the case with dogs, however. Dogs love you so unconditionally that they experience physiological effects whenever you are near. When they hear your voice the "happy" portion of their auditory section in the brain lights up. At the same time, they can smell your particular scent even in a crowded room - and they are ecstatic about getting a whiff of you!

So, what does all this information mean? Well, it shows that dogs don't just like you because you give them food and a warm place to sleep. No, they truly do love you with their little doggy hearts.

You Are Their Family

Did you know that wolves and dogs are genetically very similar? This means that domestic pups tend to have some of the traits instilled in wolves. In particular, dogs are social creatures who work well in a pack.

Well, here's something that you might be delighted to learn: your pooch considers you a part of his or her pack. After all, you are the only family that they have known. This makes you someone to care for and protect all times.

This is just one of the reasons why dogs are quite so loyal to you. As far as they are concerned, you are no different than one of their furry family members. Now, how can you possibly consider them a pet after this statement?

Dogs Show Empathy Towards Their Owner

Another reason that pups are more than just pets is because they know when you are hurt or upset. More than that, they will make a conscious effort to make you feel better. They will not do this for just anyone. Pooches are more likely to try and cheer up people that they are familiar with.

In short, experts have discovered that dogs can be empathetic. They can immediately pick up on when there is a change in your mood. The pups are especially attuned to when you are in any kind of distress.

What's just as adorable is that dogs get upset when you are hurting. This is why they try to lick you and snuggle with you when you are troubled. This is something you would expect from a creature who was more than just a domesticated animal.

Pooches are Incredibly Helpful to Humans

Sure, dogs aren't fighting off wild animals or pulling sleds anymore. However, this doesn't mean that they aren't still useful to humans. It can be argued that dogs are helpful to people in more meaningful ways than before.

For instance, trained pups can help people with physical disabilities. They can often be found with people who are considered legally blind. These furry buddies may also be paired with individuals who have trouble handling various tasks by themselves.

At an increasing rate, dogs are also being trained to help people with psychiatric conditions. They are enormously helpful to people who have been diagnosed with PTSD, anxiety, depression, and a whole host of other conditions.

Many people will also have pups as emotional support animals. This is when the dogs help to improve people's moods or provide a boost in their quality of life.

Dogs Can Make Your Life Better

However, what is probably most significant is that dogs can improve your life in so many different ways. For one thing, they can make you stay healthier. Most busy people don't take the time to exercise or stay in shape.

When you have a pup, though, this simply isn't an option anymore. Rather, you are forced to take your pooch out for a walk every day. There is also a good chance that you play with fetch with them or simply run around and keep them company.

Then there is also the fact that pups make it a lot easier for you to be social. If you are a shy or introverted individual, then you may not make much of an effort to meet other people. However, when you have a pup on your hands, people will gravitate to you.

After all, most people love dogs. So, if they see you walking around with one, you will probably be approached at least a few times. You are also bound to meet other dog lovers when you go to the dog park or even the vet office. Thus, your possibilities for making new friends truly are endless thanks to your pooch.

It is clear from all this evidence that dogs are so much more than just pets. Rather, they can be your best friend or even something close to a family member. They love you unconditionally and care for you in ways that even some humans can't!

So the next time someone tries to convince you that your pooch is just a pet, you have plenty of proof to back up your argument. And, if you don't already have a dog, these are all excellent reasons to adopt one. You will be in for a world of love, loyalty, and affection. Who could say no to all of that?
