Vanda Electrics Launches New Electric 'Monkey' Bike That Charges in an Hour

A new electric bike was unveiled to the market, which is capable of zipping across the city without much difficulty. Its speed is pegged at 20mph, and its lithium-ion battery charges in less than an hour. 

According to the Daily Mail, the Motochimp is an electric moped that, when fully charged, can reach top speeds of more than 20mph. This makes it an ideal vehicle for rush-hour commutes.

The bike is just a meter long and is designed for city life. Riders can even charge the bike just by plugging itinto any outlet, and it can finish charging in an hour.

The bike has an aluminum frame and is powered by a 48V, 350-watt electric rear hub monitor. At full charge, it can reach distances up to 40 miles or 60 kilometers. Its lithium-ion battery with its plug is stored under the rider's seat.

Riders can start the vehicle using a contactless RFID key, and a master key which can be used to code five additional keys. The bike comes in red, blue and yellow varieties. 

Singaporean Vanda Electrics designed the vehicle, and it was first unveiled at the Shenzen International Industrial Design Fair in China. The moped is one of many innovative design concepts unveiled in the conference, which can provide a snapshot to the new face of technology worldwide.

Larissa Tan, Vanda Electrics CEO, said the Motochimp is all about accessibility and was inspired by a sketch of a 10-year-old girl. 

The Motochimp will arrive in Asia first before arriving in Europe, UK, and the U.S. Interested parties can buy the moped for approximately $1,600.  

This is a good step toward the popularity of electric bikes and vehicles all around the world as this can help reduce the usage of fossil fuels. Given the campaign against global warming and to use more renewable energy sources, this is also helpful in China's campaign against pollution.
