A lake wind advisory for damaging, strong winds has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) for the Eastern United States this coming weekend. The weather service issues this type of advisory when windy conditions over area lakes and their surroundings become hazardous for boats, recreational activities, and even the public.

The "windy" US weekend weather forecast has been issued amid the major winter storms raging across the country, as well as the deadly severe weather in the Southeast US that killed at least five people. It can be recalled that a monster storm system triggered a tornado outbreak in parts of the Gulf Coast and southeastern US, causing widespread damage and disruption.

Lake Wind Threat Measures

The NWS warned that small boats, kayaks, and paddle boards will be vulnerable to capsizing caused by strong winds and large waves on the lake. The weather service also advises the public to remain off lake waters until conditions improve.

Furthermore, the meteorologists recommend postponing one's boating activities on the lake and moving it to a day with less or weaker wind.
