Midwest and Northeastern US have been experiencing the shift to hotter weather this week after experiencing prolonged cold and freezing conditions.

In the latest advisory, the National Weather Service (NWS) reported that the warmer trend could spread over the Northern Plains and Central Rockies. The warmth can become ideal for Americans who are not yet ready for extreme cold this coming winter.

Meanwhile, Upper Great Lakes can experience above-normal temperatures and light rain. In the Pacific Northwest, a mixture of snow and rain could unfold in the region.

The warmer trend and strong gusty winds could cause potential fire concerns in the Midwest and Northeast. Americans should be careful in using flammable materials in dry areas or vegetation.

In this week, the warm weather could emerge in the following areas:

  • Winnipeg
  • Thunder Bay
  • Fargo
  • Bismarck
  • Rapid City
  • Scottsbluff
  • Omaha
  • Sioux Falls
  • Minneapolis
  • Chicago
  • Billings

According to forecasts, the warmer trend is due to a dome of high pressure in the region. In New York City, residents can wake up with colder weather with 20s to low 30s. The chilly outlook can likely continue midweek in the US.

Furthermore, the warmer air could expand in parts of the US from Wednesday to Thursday. Prolonged exposure to heat is not advisable, especially for older adults and people with medical conditions.
