Severe Weather Returns to Texas as Cluster of Thunderstorms Bring Threats of Hail

The likelihood that severe weather will return to Texas tonight is further increased by the approaching cluster of thunderstorms that pose a hail threat.

Severe Weather in Houston Tonight

With a passing shower and cloudy skies for the majority of the day, highs will soar to the upper 70s. Tonight, a group of thunderstorms moves in with the potential for large hail, lightning, and heavy rain.

The timeframe is from 4 PM to 11 PM. Tonight, there is a 40% chance of strong thunderstorms, and parts of SE Texas could experience low street flooding.

Wednesday and Thursday in Houston

On Wednesday afternoon, a brief shower is possible, but a line of storm storms won't be here until early on Thursday. For Wednesday's commute to work, this front will likely bring another round of heavy rain as well as the possibility of severe weather.

On Thursday, there will be a greater risk of severe weather in the North US. In the Houston area, between 0.5 and 3 inches of rain are forecast.

Next 10 Days for Houston

From Tuesday through Thursday, there will be an unsettling weather pattern in the region. Thursday's front helped to clear most of the rain.

Rain is possible from Friday night to early Saturday. Another area of low pressure that is moving quickly will cause this weekend's temperatures to drop, Click2 Houston reports.

Weather Alerts for Other Parts of Texas

Several parts of Texas are under various weather alerts. Three Coastal Flood Advisory announcements are spread throughout Coastal Kleberg, Coastal Nueces, Coastal San Patricio, Aransas Islands, Calhoun Islands, Kleberg Islands, Nueces Islands, Cameron Island, Kenedy Island, and Willacy Island for possible minor flooding. The Coastal Flood Advisories are effective until the early hours of this evening.

Two Rip Current Statements, both expiring tomorrow at 7 AM, have been issued for areas including the Aransas Islands, Calhoun Islands, Kleberg Islands, Nueces Islands, Cameron Island, Kenedy Island, and Willacy Island because of high rip current risks.

Meanwhile, a Rip Current Statement expiring today has been issued over the Bolivar Peninsula, Brazoria Islands, Galveston Island, and Matagorda Islands.

A Red Flag Warning is in effect over El Paso, and Hudspeth and will expire at 9 PM tonight.

This afternoon, dry, elevated heat brings dangerous fire weather conditions back to far west Texas and southern New Mexico. As a surface low forms in northeastern New Mexico this afternoon, wind speeds will pick up, which will be 20 to 25 mph out of the west, with gusts as high as 40 mph.

The lowlands' minimum relative humidity will stay in the 7-12% range, while the mountains' minimum relative humidity will stay in the 15-25% range, the National Weather Service reports.

Health Forecast for Houston Today

Air quality ranks as fair for today as particulate matter, ground-level ozone, and fine particulate matter remain in the "fair" rating. Some Allergens are at moderate levels, including tree pollen, ragweed pollen, and grass pollen.

Triggers for some medical conditions, namely asthma are at high levels, while arthritis triggers are at moderate, AccuWeather reports.
