Heavy Lake-Effect Snow Unloaded in Buffalo, New York, Causing Major Travel Disruptions; Residents Warned of Prolonged Cold Exposure

According to a recent report, heavy lake-effect snow unfolded in Buffalo City, New York, causing widespread travel disruptions and 17 fatalities. Rescue operations became difficult as the severe winter conditions became challenging.

People are advised to avoid prolonged exposure to extremely cold weather as it could result in potential health risks, including frostbite and hypothermia.

The holiday and Christmas were chaotic and problematic for many residents in Buffalo City in New York as the severe winter caused heavy lake-effect snow producing massive snow and strong winds.

Heavy lake-effect snow and travel delays

According to AccuWeather's latest news, the extremely cold weather affecting the Central United States and blizzard events helped produce heavy lake-effect snow as many Americans planned for the Holidays before the Christmas celebrations.

AccuWeather explained that immediate assistance was deployed, including the National Guard. The report said that fatalities were due to the extremely cold weather, and many people were stranded on roadways.

 However, the weather was challenging, with heavy snow and zero visibility, affecting immediate medical assistance and emergencies. The report explained that emergency responders found the weather difficult, even reaching portions of Buffalo that experienced the heavy impact of lake-effect snow.

Furthermore, AccuWeather reported that the airport in Buffalo City also suffered from heavy snow and zero visibility for about 16 hours, as many Americans planned for their Christmas travel.

Recently, the National Weather Service announced that about 200 million people in the U.S. were under severe winter storm watches and warnings. The advisory added that significant travel delays on air and land could occur due to a major winter storm.

According to the weather report, 12,000 in Erie County had no power due to the weather conditions (As of Sunday).

In November 2022, Buffalo also suffered from heavy lake-effect snow that caused widespread travel restrictions.

AccuWeather's forecast on Monday also showed that wintry conditions could unfold, with potential snow showers. Cold weather with flurries could spread in portions of Detroit, Toronto, New York, Boston, Bangor, and Washington. Meanwhile, snow showers could also occur in Cincinnati and Syracuse.

The arctic blast of cold air helped to bring colder temperatures to the United States.

Furthermore, the lake-effect snow and major winter storm unloaded massive snow last week. The extremely cold weather is still challenging, causing potential health risks.

Those who would help to remove the snow on their roofs or homes should be extra careful with prolonged exposure to cold weather, especially those who are vulnerable.

It is recommended to take turns or do the snow removal with breaks. Drinking enough water is important as snow removal tasks would exhaust you.

After the heavy snow, it is important to check on potential damages to pipes, heating systems, roofs and the health status of your family members who could be vulnerable to cold weather.
