A severe tropical storm hit the Philippines and Taiwan, causing rainfall flooding and evacuations of affected residents this weekend.

AccuWeather said that parts of Vietnam and Southern China would experience heavy rain by midweek.

Nesat or Typhoon Neneng, caused over 900 people in the northern part of the Philippines to evacuate due to the typhoon threat. Local officials immediately announced evacuations in nearby shelters to avoid possible casualties.

According to CNN Philippines, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that at least 7,519 families (27,914 people) were affected, which includes 5,300 families from Cagayan Valley, 1,595 from Ilocos Region and 647 from Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

The Disaster Risk agency in the Philippines said there were no reports of missing, injuries, or deaths.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Nesat (Typhoon Neneng) made landfall on Cagayan Island, becoming a severe tropical storm.

Moreover, AccuWeather said that the Philippines could have another round of heavy rain coming late this week.

 The Philippines is prone to tropical typhoons, and it is in the Pacific Ring of Fire, making the country suffers from tropical cyclones. Records show that the country can have over 20 typhoons every year.

In addition, AccuWeather reported that the typhoon caused raging floodwaters that affected communities and roadways, in which Luzon felt the heaviest rainfall. The report also added that parts of Norther Luzon experienced four to eight inches of rain when it hit on the weekend.

On the contrary, Nesat unleashed heavy rains in northern areas of Taiwan that resulted in flooding.

AccuWeather reported that a station in Shilin District, Taipei City recorded 1,818 mm (71.6inches) of rainfall (Last Friday) and 700-1000 mm of rain (28 to 40 inches ) in northern areas of Taiwan. Taiwan News also said that Yilan County's Datong Township experienced 902 mm of rain during the onslaught of Nesat.

The report also showed that flooding and mudslides occurred in Taiwan due to Nesat's torrential rainfall.

Furthermore, Taiwan News reported that eight individuals were safely rescued after being stranded in a flooded hotel in Yilan City (Sunday).
