Through the years, Toblerone has been known for the iconic, triangular shape of their product. However, the latest move of the chocolate company has both baffled, disgusted and outraged a number of loyal customers. Instead of a chocolate bar made from triangle shaped pieces with just enough space in between, the new and 'improved' look has increased the gaps to a considerable length.

According to a statement released by the company on their Facebook page, this move has been done to help in the reduction of the costs of production. It is claimed that as the prices of raw goods increase, the cost of the production also increases. Thus, the company is left with no choice but to decrease the weight of their products to maintain the quality and affordability of each bar.

For many, this fury regarding the change in Toblerone's geometry may sound ridiculous. However, an analysis of the situation calls for the lack of necessity for the company's action. Since the chocolate product is not an essential consumable, which does not constitute an everyday purchase, it would seem that consumers may be able to deal with a price raise. Furthermore, patrons seem to feel underhanded as the 40 g decrease in the weight is not immediately evident since the packaging was maintained. It would be to the surprise to the consumer to find the weight so evidently reduced upon opening the box and seeing what is inside.

Many of the consumers have remarked that Toblerone could have simply reduced the length but maintained the original design. With slyly reducing the weight but maintaining the length, the customers are led to believe that it contains the same old Toblerone they grew up with

Experts say that Mondelez is not the only company that has announced a price increase. Both Tesco and Unilever has also increased their prices, as costs of raw materials have spiked mainly due to the drop in value of the British currency.
