Deadliest Year for Environmental Defenders; 212 Death Toll in 2019

The death toll for environmental activists and environmental defenders reached 212 last year, equivalent to more than four deaths a week. It also indicated that the figure, which had a significant spike since 2018, makes 2019 the deadliest year for environmental activists standing up for land and water resources from mining, agribusiness, and fossil fuel interest.
