Seven cold-stunned sea turtles were recently rescued from frigid waters off the coast of Florida. Four of the animals are expected to undergo surgery to remove debilitating tumors.
Volunteers with the Massachusetts Audubon Society have rescued nearly 120 "cold-stunned" sea turtles from shores of Cape Cod Bay. Researchers at the New England Aquarium will spend the next few days slowly warming the animals to get their body temperatures back to normal.
A rare Eastern Pacific green sea turtle was recently seen swimming in Northern California's San Joaquin River far from its home near Mexico. Researcher believe the animals have been lured north by warmer El Niño waters and that this may be dangerous for the species if more follow.
