UK temperatures could further go down to -4 degrees Celsius, resulting in icy winds that can potentially affect regional air travel.
In recent days, UK weather authorities have warned about the looming threat that could affect not only England but also Northern Ireland, Wales, and Scotland.
Reduced or poor visibility is one of the greatest risks for travelers.
UK Braces for Icy Winds
The UK braced for gusty winds, heavy rain, and freezing temperatures on Monday, November 21.
UK weather authorities issued a yellow wind warning, covering areas in Southwest England and South Wales with wind gusts from 55 to 65 miles per hour on land and from 70 to 80 miles per hour in coastal areas, as reported by the British online newspaper The Independent.
While a yellow rain warning has covered most parts of Northern Ireland, a third weather warning is in effect in Scotland, with a yellow ice warning in place for the northeastern part of the country.
Other parts of Great Britain and the UK as a whole, as well as Ireland, could experience heavy rain, snow, and chilling winds in the coming hours and days.
The UK's latest cold weather forecast came from Met Office Meteorologist Alex Burkill, who stated that two areas of low pressure were set to cause "very wet and windy weather" to different parts of the UK, as cited by UK newspaper.
The first area will be towards Northwest Northern Ireland and the second will be in Ireland and Southwest England.
Burkill added temperatures could drop to minus four, bringing the risk of ice and fog, making driving conditions difficult in affected areas of the UK.
Met Office Weather Forecast
For this week, the Met Office issued its short-range forecast, confirming Burkill's assessment of a wet and windy weather for the country.
For Tuesday, November 22, the UK weather agency said further rain or showers affecting northern-eastern Scotland and coastal Southern England with a risk of coastal gales are expected.
Some parts of the UK could also see drier conditions but could see a chilly weather wherever there is fog or low cloud lingering around.
For Wednesday to Friday, November 23 to November 25, cold weather could start in Eastern UK with frost and fog.
Furthermore, spells of rain and strong winds will expand from west to east, becoming mild again.
Freezing Weather Preparation
In recent years, the UK has experienced unprecedented cold temperatures, especially before and during its winter season, which spans from December to February each year.
In particular, Britain's coldest village is preparing for an upcoming freezing weather.
People in the village of Braemar, Aberdeenshire, are already used to low temperatures but the cost of staying warm is also great, The Guardian reported.
Since November came, the village experienced a bitter chill hovering the air and temperature floating at around 6 degrees Celsius.
The much-needed cold weather in the UK came after it was struck by a massive heat wave in the previous months.
