The Hudson Valley experienced its first snowfall, which turned into a wintry mix of flurries overnight and then freezing rain the following morning.

In the northwest parts of the Hudson Valley, snowflakes started to fall on Tuesday evening and persisted through the night. The morning commute on Wednesday may be difficult due to the slick roads caused by a mix of snow and freezing rain.

Snow Accumulation

The National Weather Service forecasts 3.5" of snow for Monticello and nearly 4" for some areas of Sullivan County. Port Jervis and Middletown in Orange County could receive 1.9 and 1.5 inches of rain, respectively. Poughkeepsie and Cold Spring on the east bank of the Hudson River were expected to receive 0.6 and 0.5 inches of rain, respectively.

Sullivan County is under a winter weather advisory until Wednesday at 10 AM.

According to the weather service, there is a chance for 1 to 3 inches of snow, with higher terrain having a chance for up to 4 inches.

According to experts, Tuesday evening, a wintry mix of snow, rain, sleet, and freezing rain advances into the region. Late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning, November 23, the mix changes to mainly rain with isolated areas of freezing rain. Throughout the event, temperatures will remain between the upper 20s and mid-30s. Higher elevations will experience greater snow and ice accumulations.

Wintry Mix

The precipitation is expected to end as rain on Wednesday after starting as snow, a wintry mix, and freezing rain. Additionally, there may be a layer of ice, which could make Wednesday morning's commute risky due to the slick roads.

Paul Walker, a meteorologist from AccuWeather, said that The majority of the roads will be wet on Wednesday morning. Travelers and drivers may need to be alert for some slick areas.

The high on Wednesday should be in the low 40s, and rain is likely to last all morning, Times Herald-Record reports.

10-Day Forecast for Hudson, NY

For the next ten days, The Weather Channel data shows that the Hudson area will be having partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies, except on Friday, November 25 when there is a 58% chance of rain. Morning rain or possibly snow showers will continue the next day and will return on Monday, November 28.

Temperature highs will play around the low 40s today until Friday. By Saturday, temperatures will drop to 39 degrees and pick up the following days. By Friday, November 25, temperatures will reach 48 degrees and drop to 45 and 46 through Wednesday, November 30.

According to AccuWeather, there are no to little problems with allergens today, except for dust and dander, which is at moderate levels.

The cold weather might be highly challenging for those with arthritis, sinus pressure, and the common cold. There might be some challenges for those with flu and migraine.

Outdoor activities are not recommended today, which include fishing, running, biking, golfing, cycling, going to the beach or the swimming pools, and stargazing. Even home activities held in the family yard are not recommended. This includes lawn mowing, composting, or entertaining outdoors.

There is a moderate chance for outdoor pests to be a nuisance and a high chance for indoor pests to invade indoor spaces.
