Major Flooding Continues to Threat New South Wales and Victoria Due to Persistent Heavy Rain

Floodwaters remain a problem in some parts of inland New South Wales and Victoria following the recent yet persistent heavy rain that swept the country in recent days.

Australian weather authorities stated major flooding threat could lead to the overflow of bodies of water like rivers in the two Australian states.

Flood continuance has also impacted multiple infrastructures, local travel, and establishments.

The recurring torrential rain and flash floods in Eastern Australia comes after a relatively cold winter season and renewed announcement by the weather authorities of the return of the La Nina climate pattern.

The same weather phenomenon was also reportedly responsible for the Eastern Australia floods earlier this year, which left multiple fatalities and widespread disruption.

Major Flood Threat

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) on Thursday, November 3, said flood impacts are ongoing despite the expected decline of heavy rain and relatively dry, settled conditions until at least Friday, November 4.

Due to widespread impact and extended disruption caused by the recent inclement weather, various communities in New South Wales and Victoria are still affected.

In particular, the disruption is being caused by floodwater-related damage to the following infrastructure and establishments:

•  roads
•  rail
•  homes
•  properties
•  businesses
•  agricultural land

Floodwaters have also led to road closures, community isolation, and evacuation orders in many rural areas across New South Wales and northern Victoria.

Due to the renewed floods in the two states, the State Emergency Service (SES) on Thursday has warned residents to keep safe.

With this, the SES have current evacuation orders for the affected communities, as cited by ABC News.

Major Flood Warnings

The BoM also issued its Major Flood Warnings and mentioned they are still in place for the following rivers as of Thursday morning:

•  Barwon River
•  Darling River
•  Macquarie River
•  Lachlan River
•  Murrumbidgee River
•  Murray River
•  Bogan River
•  Macintyre River
•  Namoi River
•  Narran River
•  Belubula River
•  Castlereagh River

The flood warnings entail that the mentioned rivers are either currently overflowing or their water levels have exceeded the normal levels.

Also known as riverine flooding, the overflow of these rivers could inundate nearby roads, homes, and commercial establishments.

The Australian weather agency enumerates some of the affected towns:

•  Echuca/Moama
•  Barham
•  Hay
•  Warren
•  Mungindi
•  Hillston
•  Cowra
•  Condobolin
•  Forbes
•  Gundagai
•  Gunnedah
•  Nnaami
•  Bourke
•  Brewarrina
•  Walgett

Meanwhile, minor to moderate flooding is also occurring in many rivers across Queensland, Tasmania, New South Wales, and Victoria.

2022 Eastern Australia Floods

The deadly floods in Queensland, New South Wales, and other nearby areas earlier this year is known as the 2022 Eastern Australia floods.

At least 20 people have died so far this year from the widespread flooding worsened by climate change, according to climate scientists, as cited by Axios.com.

Now, the floodings since October has already led to multiple deaths and several evacuations across Australia where the eastern and southeastern states being the most affected.

Australia weather forecasts revealed that the adverse weather is possible to continue in the coming weeks or months.
