Moreover, it is not necessary to take a car with you. You take a ticket to a distant hot country with palm trees, you go to a rental sport cars agency with a wide selection of hiring cars for every taste and budget, you rent some Lamba or Porsche, get into it and drive a rental supercar along a smooth highway with a breeze towards the sun and the sea!

There are roads for which the journey itself is started. We collected the most picturesque and impressive.

Norway, Atlantic Road

The British newspaper The Guardian 2006 awarded the Atlantic Road in Norway the title of "The country's best tourist road". The Atlantic road jumps from island to island: there are seven bridges for 8.5 kilometers. On one side you have a view of the Norwegian Sea, on the other - fantastic fjords. On clear days you can spot whales and seals. Along the road, there are specially equipped areas for fishing and picnics. Because of the picturesque surroundings and the play of light, filmmakers have long chosen this place: commercials for cars and motorcycles are filmed here.

One of the attractions of the route is the Storsesandet Bridge. Imagine: the road makes a smooth bend and seems to break off in the clouds. Some tourists literally feel dizzy from this view. Perhaps that is why the locals also call it the "drunken bridge".

The construction of the optical illusion bridge cost the state 122 million Norwegian kroner, and for the first decade, the passage was paid. Lovers of harsh landscapes rush to this region in the fall to see the waves breaking out onto the track.

Australia, Great Ocean Road

Driving along the 243 km long Great Ocean Road is like taking part in a breathtaking movie where nature itself has already prepared the scenery. Most landscape postcards from Australia with views from here.

You will pass the mysterious Shipwreck Coast, which has 638 shipwrecks. Then you will see in the sunset rays the "Twelve Apostles" - a group of limestone rocks standing separately in the ocean.

The next stop is at the rock "London Arch": it is already 20 million years old. Until 1990, the outer rock formation resembled a bridge - and, accordingly, was called "London Bridge". Then part of the rock collapsed, and the bridge turned into an arch with a new name.

Part of the path passes through vineyards and parks with giant blue eucalyptus trees. Even road signs seem to urge you to take your time and enjoy the views: the speed limit is 50-80 km/h.

Here are some places to stop for educational purposes:

  • In Geelong, natives will teach you how to throw a boomerang and share old recipes.

  • In Warrnambool, you can watch the migration of southern right whales.

  • In the reconstructed village of Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village - get to know the life of the first settlers.

The USA, Road #1

The legendary SR1, or Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), stretches along the coast of California for 1055 km. It is considered the most romantic road in America: endless beaches await you along the way, knocking down waves, rocks crashing directly into the ocean and national parks with thousand-year-old sequoias.

Without stops, the whole journey will take 10 hours. But who will drive past secluded bays, sea lion rookeries, or the legendary Big Sur? Book 5-7 days for a trip, stopping where your heart desires.

Here are just a few stopping ideas:

  • Aristocratic Monterey with yachts, restaurants, and sea lions.

  • Big Sur with picturesque cliffs plunging into the ocean.

  • The most photographed on this route is the Bixby Bridge.

  • Elephant Seal Rookery Piedras Blancas Elephant Seal Rookery.

  • Hearst San Simeon Castle.

  • Malibu beaches.

Argentina, Route 40

Highway number 40 (Ruta 40) crosses almost all of Argentina from north to south and runs along the high Andes. One of the longest roads in the world (5000 km) pierces several climatic zones at once. Ruta 40 will take you through 27 mountain passes, 18 major rivers, 236 bridges, and 20 national parks.

Landscapes outside the car window are constantly changing: rocks follow the subtropical forests, then the fields and lakes of Patagonia, chosen by flamingos. Travelers will see almost uninhabited pampas (steppes), glaciers, and mountain deserts. There will also be a section on the way where the wind speed reaches 200 km/h.

The road is as dangerous as it is beautiful: passes, strong winds, and dirt roads make it difficult to pass. After the trip, you can safely put on a T-shirt with the inscription: "I drove along with road number 40" - there are a lot of them in souvenir shops in Argentina.
