5 Technological Advancements That Can Save Planet Earth

The world is slowly reaching its climax. In simpler terms, our world is dying. However, we can still save it if we try, and these five technological advancements might make that possible.

#1 Solar Glass

The idea behind solar glass is simple yet very innovative. Since we need windows in our houses and have to cover them with glasses, why not have them generate energy? Thus, we find ourselves working with solar glass.

We're all familiar with solar panels and how they work. Solar glass takes the same idea except that they are not opaque. The glass is transparent but can also capture solar rays to generate energy. That energy is then instantly processed to provide us with electricity.

A study by the University of Michigan shows that Michigan has about 5 to 7 billion square meters of usable window space. Fitting solar glasses to these windows can power 40% of US energy needs.

#2 PU Leather

PU leather is a type of artificial leather. You can also refer to it as synthetic leather. As PU leather products start becoming mainstream, people will no longer have to kill animals for their hides.

PU also doesn't release any harmful substances or toxins. Even when you dispose of it, the leather simply decomposes instead of releasing toxic gas into the environment. Thus, it's more eco-friendly than leather.

Different brands and companies that use leather are gradually switching to PU leather. Even luxury product manufacturers are making the switch. Wonder Massage Chairs are known for their high-quality products. Their massage chairs are not just high-performing but also beautiful to look at. Much of this beauty is because of the use of PU leather. Of course, the craftsmanship deserves credit too.

#3 Plant-Based Plastic

Plastic is one of the most dangerous materials that exist today. Apart from carbon, it's the leading material responsible for the death and decay of our planet.

Scientists over the years have predicted that we can increase our planet's lifespan and liveability conditions if we can somehow get rid of plastic usage. However, that's easier said than done because plastics aren't biodegradable. Thus, comes the need for biodegradable plastic, which we can source from plants.

Plant-based plastic products will decay when you bury them. Unlike regular plastic, plant-based or biodegradable ones will slowly break down and mix with the soil. This type of plastic is gaining popularity as different brands, coffee shops, and restaurants are switching to biodegradable plastic products.

#4 Meatless Meat

Over 15,000 scientists worldwide raised the alarm in 2017 when they suggested that meat consumption is one of the causes of environmental damage. That's because how people are cutting down forests in favor of grasslands for their animals. The Food and Agriculture Organization - FAO - believes that livestock accounts for almost 15% of greenhouse gas emissions. So, it's evident that meat consumption is leading to environmental damage.

Of course, you can't just tell people to stop eating meat. However, you can ask them to switch to an alternative, especially one that tastes exactly like meat but is meatless.

Fake meat or meatless meat contains soy, wheat gluten, or pea protein. These taste exactly like meat but do not contain animal protein and are healthy too. The US National Institutes of Health conducted a research where they found meatless meat to be a good source of fiber and iron. This type of meat is also low on crude fat.

Popular food chains like Burger King and Del Taco already sell meatless meat products. It won't be long before other major players from this sector pick up on this trend.

#5 Smart Grids

Grids that we see today are sensitive to usage and output fluctuations. They're also prone to different types of attack and damages and heavily rely on pollution-emitting energy sources.

Smart grids enable energy production to a local level. That means you can produce energy inside households and feed that back to the grid upstream. Accurate AI-driven prediction models ensure that energy production is free from any sort of wastage. So, there is no overproduction and no heavy energy loss.

By 2030, switching to smart grid technology can help the US reduce carbon emissions by almost 60%.

These five technological advancements are all around us. We only need to embrace them if we want to save our planet.
