Eco-friendly, non-toxic, cruelty-free. These are just some of the few words that are being thrown around in the beauty industry and it is important to take note. Whether you're in the business of wholesale nail polish or if you want to create something that will stand the test of time, you really want to pay attention to these sustainable trends because they are here to stay.

When we think about environmentally friendly products, there are a few boxes that they need to check. First of all, they should be refillable, or at the very least, the packaging should be recyclable. Furthermore, they shouldn't be tested on animals because animal-tested products contribute significantly to pollution through chemical dumping and harming biodiversity

The ingredients in the products itself should also be ethically sourced from sustainable sources. Since the beauty industry is one of the biggest markets that shows no signs of slowing down, we have to make a conscious effort to ensure minimal impact on the environment. While there are plenty of beauty products that check all these boxes, here are a few tips and tricks to choose the best eco-friendly product.

Always opt for waterless and waste-free

While it might be tempting to grab a bag of toner pads that are infused with essence, it can be wasteful because those pads are generally one-use and disposable. Furthermore, water-filled products have a bigger carbon footprint simply because they are heavier to ship and it dilutes the product, meaning that you will need more in a shorter period of time. Waterless beauty products are on the rise because they offer concentrated natural ingredients that don't require water.

Are the ingredients upcycled or zero-waste?

Something that all eco-warriors like to see. Sometimes, it's not possible to opt for zero-waste, so upcycling is another alternative. The upcycling concept perpetuates zero-waste because otherwise those products and ingredients will go to landfills. What better way to save the planet from waste by utilizing the waste instead?

Some common upcycled ingredients include fruit seeds, pulp, or coffee grounds. Wood or certain types of plastic can also be repurposed for packaging, which is what some beauty products opt for, but otherwise, zero-waste could also mean bringing your own jar or using sustainable packaging instead.

Local is always best

Instead of looking to the international market for eco-friendly products, it's always much more sustainable to find a local manufacturer. With eco-trends rising so rapidly, it shouldn't be hard to come across someone who sells natural beauty products on social media, or you can always try your hand at making your own. Supporting local businesses is not only good for the economy, but it can also help reduce carbon emissions and pollution from mass production. Furthermore, some organic or local products will not have the same kind of chemical additives to keep them fresher for longer because they do not need to be distributed over the globe, etcetera. Of course, not all products are created equal and if there is a particular holy grail product that you must get your hands on, who is going to deny you that? Just remember to use your best judgment when choosing sustainable beauty products.
