7 Tips for Building Better Commercial Gardens

Offices and Retailers have outdoor spaces, too - and here are our top tips on taking better care of them!

Commercial buildings, offices, hotels, and even warehouses, all sport some degree of outdoor space. Whether that outdoor space is a car park or a full-grown garden, the presentation and effort you put into it will reflect upon your organization. If the outdoors is immaculate, the business inside is likely to be equally high quality.

If you happen to be in the group of SMEs that need some green-fingered help, we suggest hiring our commercial landscaper. We are about to give you the best the internet has to offer in terms of top tips.

Perk up your Business's Outdoor Space with these Top Tips

Without further ado, here is how you can make the most of even a limited outdoor area.

1 - Use Plant Power

Even those who have no outdoor area can perk up a commercial space with the use of some perfectly placed potted plants.

Place your greens directly in front of windows or invest in some stylish window boxes to attract the eye and delight your employees. Watering the houseplants makes a nice distraction from answering emails all day, and the plants will breathe some life into the office in return.

Do not forget that you can place plants outdoors and just about anywhere you like, too. A dental practice can enormously benefit from some beautifully tended blossoming trees or flowers, for example, to ease the client's mind. This is just a single example of the multiple ways that plants can benefit us in our day-to-day (office) lives.

2 - Outdoor Attractions

Any front-of-building space can be used in such a way as to make your building more appealing to the passing client. Creating something unique to your building makes for an attractive feature that creates something that turns heads.

What is unique about your office or space? What points would a commercial landscaper pick out to make use of? Floral features such as hanging baskets are a nice touch, but make sure they stay business-relevant. Do not be afraid to add in trees or bushes, both of which work wonderfully to frame entrances and create shade.

3 - Stay Seasonal.

You do not need to be a brilliant commercial landscaper to know that seasonal features work well in any space. If you are in retail, you sell Christmas decorations; if you are in travel, you sell themed holidays, and if you are in commerce, you put up a Christmas tree while you do the accounts.

Whatever season it is, putting a few decorations in your commercial outdoor area allows clients to appreciate your contribution to the community. This method of celebration simultaneously draws the eye in, making for better advertising all around.

4 - Paint if you have to

Both painting and varnishing a space can have the dual impact of preserving, as well as tidying the appearance of, an outdoor space. If you have any woodwork outside, and even some brickwork, you could perk it up with a tint of paint while simultaneously turning it into a feature that draws the eye into your business.

An extra layer should be added, particularly if you are weatherproofing fencing or latticework. One layer of varnish or paint doesn't tend to be enough outdoors, so make sure you pick up extra. As an added extra tip - be sure to put out your "caution wet paint" signs so you don't have any angry clients coming in to complain.

5 - Think about Lighting.

There is one sure-fire way to add atmosphere and interest to any area - and that is with the right lighting. It might be that you put up some string lights to add a bit of flash and dazzle to your storefront. It might be that you want to light up your sign and use it to draw in that vital footfall... whatever the reason, a few well-placed colours can be all it takes to completely transform your space.

Strip lighting has become increasingly popular recently. This is due to the LED nature of the bulb itself, which is long-lasting and therefore more environmentally friendly. They can be placed wherever you like and are excellent for creating lit-up borders to any window display... Plus, they are extremely affordable to run.

6 - Grow Up!

You can grow plants up the way - and no, we don't mean just by planting them and letting them get larger. We mean to grow them up the wall. Lattice framework, trellises, and even hanging pot plants, can all help you make the most of a tiny outdoor space by growing on the vertical.

With just a few accessories, you can make a small outdoor space grow up along a wall, join a trellis, or brighten up an otherwise dull wall or shop front. Definitely a win for the aspiring commercial landscaper.

7 - Add some Seating.

One thing that customers hate is the lack of outdoor seating space on any given high street. Allow them a space to sit and reflect outside your store, and you have the chance to talk to them in passing. Do that a few times and they are bound to come inside, even if it is only for a chat.

You don't have to be a business guru to know that the reputation of your organization spreads best through word of mouth in your local area. Perking up your outdoor space with a little seating could be all you need to start taking advantage of this time-tested way to do business... and all it could take would be the addition of a single bench.
