A sight of an alligator feasting on a human body gave a maintenance worker a chill to the bones.

According to WFLA, a man called 911 on Tuesday around 1:40 p.m. to report that he had came across an alligator with a human's body in its mouth.

The police from the Lakeland Police Department quickly went to Lake Hunter where the gator was seen and found the gator still sinking its teeth in the body.

"The officers got here and the alligator still had the person. He let the individual go, he is deceased, looks like this person may have been dead more than a day," said Sgt. Gary Gross from Lakeland Police in an interview with WFLA.

"We don't want to speculate but I will say when the officer got here the alligator did a roll and had the person in contact with him," added Gross.

A state alligator trapper also arrived at the scene to capture the alligator, but was not able to catch it.

According to NY Post, the 911 caller lived at the Florida Presbyterian Homes, a senior living community near the lake.

The police were able to retrieve the body as the gator backed down when they were approaching, but the remains are yet to be identified. An autopsy is necessary to determine whether the alligator killed the man or if he was already dead when the gator found him.

Alligator sighting is not really new in Florida, but the fact that one of them was seen eating human flesh was terrifying for the residents near the area. A few weeks ago, a 15-foot gator was seen casually walking across a Florida golf course, giving some golfers a sight of a lifetime.
