Lorex has issued a voluntary recall of its Lorex Care N' Share baby monitor after receiving reports that its batteries could overheat, swell, expand and cause the battery cover to open or come off, posing a potential burning hazard to the consumers.
According to the report of U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recall includes about 26,000 units Lorex Care N' Share baby monitors, which comes in bundle with a camera, in the United States and approximately 8,000 unit sold in Canada. The baby monitors affected by the recall were those with model numbers WL3520, WL4320 and WL3401. The model numbers are printed at the back panel of the product.
The affected products were sold in bundle for between $60 and $140 in Babies "R" Us, B&H, Best Buy, Target, The Home Depot, Walmart and online through Amazon and Lorex Store from May 2013 through April 2016.
The baby monitors measure about four inches tall and five inches wide with white plastic back and either a white or black border. The monitors are powered by blue lithium polymer battery and have the word "LOREX" or "The Lorex Baby" is printed below the monitor screen. The products were manufactured in China, imported by FLIR Commercial Systems Inc., of Goleta, California and distributed by Lorex Technology Inc., of, Canada.
Fox News reported that the recall was made after Lorex received 488 reports of the batteries overheating and expanding and another 140 reports regarding the swelling of the battery pack, causing its plastic casing to open or come off. So far, there are no reported injuries associated with the recalled baby monitors.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is urging consumers who have brought the recalled Lorex Care N' Share baby monitors to immediately stop using the product and contact Lorex toll-free at 844-265-7388 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday for a full refund.
