$92000 Budget for Renovators, New Residents

Increased incentives of up to roughly $92,000 will soon be made available to those ready to restore abandoned or dilapidated homes and move inside of them. The goal of the Department is to attempt to fulfill these needs through capital and current investments made by the Department itself as well as through other pertinent Departments and organizations.

According to the Government of Ireland, "Our Living Islands" is a 10-year national policy for offshore islands that was released in June 2023.

According to the government, the objective of a larger program to rejuvenate life and communities on the islands and boost population is to renovate unoccupied or abandoned buildings on the islands, turning them into long-term dwellings.

As a consequence of implementing this strategy, more people will live on the islands of Ireland and more people will work on the islands, with solid career possibilities, regardless of where their business is located, according to Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys, Insider reports.

Eligible Properties and Available Funding

A grant of up to $70,000 is available, including the cost of the works in VAT. According to a fair cost estimate made by the local authorities, there are upper limitations for certain types of work.

A top-up grant sum of up to $22,000 is available if renovation expenditures are higher than the basic grant amount of up to $70,000. The property must be proven to be abandoned, unsafe, or physically unsound to qualify for this top-up award. Therefore, a derelict property is eligible for a grant of $92,000.

The application must be accompanied by a certified independent report from a qualified professional attesting to the property's abandoned status.

Grants are available for eligible unoccupied properties nationwide, including those in rural, suburban, and urban areas, according to the Government of Ireland.
