A significant portion of the South of the US is predicted to see severe storms on Friday as a result of the cold front crossing the country this week, increasing the likelihood of tornadoes, destructive winds, and hail. A coastal low is also bringing this weekend's heavy rain and choppy surf to the East Coast.

Cold Front Brings Severe Weather in South US

This week's cold front, which is traversing the US, is predicted to cause thunderstorms on Friday, some of which may create tornadoes, hail, and destructive wind. According to FOX Weather, the risk of severe weather is greatest across the majority of central and northern Texas, as well as southeast Oklahoma, and western Arkansas.

Powerful thunderstorms have regularly slammed the region from Texas to Arkansas this week, causing big hail, strong winds, and tornadoes.

According to AccuWeather experts, there is a moderate risk of severe weather along the Interstate 30 corridor from close to Dallas to Little Rock, Arkansas. This risk includes the potential for huge hail and destructive wind gusts.

However, any thunderstorm, anywhere covering western Texas to southeast Arkansas, southern Oklahoma, northern Louisiana, and eastern Arkansas, has the potential to intensify into a severe one with winds of up to 80 mph.

Drivers should be ready for unexpected reductions in visibility and heavy water when navigating city streets, country highways, and sections of I-20 and I-35.

In locations that have grown extremely dry, any non-flooding rainfall will be welcome. A severe and extraordinary long-term drought is affecting portions of western and central Texas as well as eastern New Mexico.

Storms during the weekend

The Southeast states will have thunderstorm activity throughout the weekend.

This weekend's thunderstorm activity in the Southeast will resemble more ordinary summertime weather, according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Bill Deger, rather than massive lines or large clusters of powerful storms.

From eastern Louisiana through western North Carolina, there will be frequent, strong thunderstorm activity on Saturday. A large portion of Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia will also be in the thundery zone, AccuWeather reports.

The Guadalupe River in Bloomington is still under a flood warning for Refugio, Victoria, and Calhoun Counties in Texas.

The Guadalupe River, which includes Bloomington, is expected to see moderate flooding. The National Weather Service has stated that the Flood Warning will continue until further notice.

The Flood Warning for the Sulphur River Near Talco, which affects Red River, Franklin, Morris, and Titus Counties, will continue to be in effect until May 22 due to the likelihood of minor flooding in these regions.

Officials advise against driving through places that are flooded. Exercise caution when strolling along riverbanks. When approaching flooded highways, it is safer to turn around rather than risk drowning because most flood fatalities involve moving automobiles, the National Weather Service reminds locals.
