Preparing for a volcanic eruption

There are advanced tools used to predict a volcanic eruption that could earlier advise residents for a potential evacuation to any nearest centers.

The eruption could become catastrophic, affecting the lives of humans and animals, properties and infrastructure.

As a result, preparing for a volcanic eruption is important that could help prevent injuries and deaths.

Knowing an emergency plan is crucial, especially if you or your community live near an active volcano.

Here are some important reminders to remember.

Stay updated with volcanic activity updates.

News and weather forecasts provide up-to-date news about a potential volcanic eruption. You can keep updated by listening to television, radio or announcements from your city's local officials.

Prepare an emergency bag.

During an emergency, such as a volcanic eruption, a handy emergency bag could save the day. Don't bring heavy equipment, as it could slow down evacuation efforts.

Keep a bag important emergency kits, including water, medicines, primary identifications, a flashlight, battery-powered radio and a basic food supply.

A power bank and fully-charged mobile phones would be helpful for radio signals, flashlights or communication if power and communication lines are not damaged.

Evacuate

When the local officials announce an evacuation, it is important to evacuate to the nearest shelter.

Please stay away from the volcano as it could produce ashes and lava. The volcanic ash could cause health risks.

Notify your family you're safe.

It is essential to check with your family members and notify them that you are safe. If any of them is injured or suffers from health-related risks, it is best to proceed to the nearest hospital immediately.

On the other hand, inform local authorities if any of them is missing.
