Weather alerts for severe weather in the Eastern US and precipitation chances in the West US on Sunday, November 27, have been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS).
Its weather forecast said that a storm will move across the mid-Mississippi Valley and into the Northeast, bringing widespread rain and gusty winds.
The US weather agency also warned Western New York, the area which recently experienced the historic lake effect snowstorm, may experience isolated minor flooding due to a combination of rainfall and snowmelt.
This renewed winterlike weather could disrupt shoppers and travelers during the post-Thanksgiving weekend.
A looming storm into the Pacific Northwest will also bring heavy snow to the Cascades and northern Rocky Mountains from Sunday into Monday, November 28, with high winds for the states of Montana and Wyoming.
While a relative calm weather is expected in the coming days, temperatures could further plummet by the end of next week during the unofficial start of the winter season in December.
NWS Weather Forecast
The Weather Prediction Center (WPC) of the NWS on Saturday, November 26, issued its latest short-range weather forecast, which highlighted that widespread showers and thunderstorms will spread from the Southern Plains to the East Coast on Sunday.
In addition, it mentioned increased precipitation in the West Coast could consist of heavy snow in mountainous areas.
The said conditions in the American West also prompted the US weather authorities to issue winter storm warnings for the Cascades, where the heaviest snow is expected to reach a total of one to two feet.
Between the storm systems in the East and West, weather conditions will be mostly dry in the Central or Northern Plains and Upper Midwest; where warm temperatures could reach as high as the upper 50s to the low 60s.
This will eventually drop into the 30s and 40s behind a cold front by Sunday, the NWS - WPC said.

Weekend Weather Systems
In addition to the NWS forecast, CNN meteorologists said several US regions are facing weekend weather systems that can complicate post-Thanksgiving travel, as widespread rain and snowfall could cause delays for travelers on their way home after the national holiday on Thursday, November 24.
As a supplemental forecast, the forecasters stated the weather systems include two in the Northeast and another duo weather disturbances responsible for dumping snow on the Northwest.
Multiple storms are also set to move across the Southeast during the weekend, with many areas could receive up to one inch of rain until Sunday evening, the US media company reported.
Texas can also face a combination of snowy and rainy weather conditions.
Meanwhile, the FOX Forecast Center on Saturday said the month of November will end on stormy conditions with unsettled weather from coast to coast even if nearly all of the country experienced tranquil weather during the Thanksgiving Day holiday.
However, Fox Weather's forecast said this will shift into a more active weather from California, the Northwest, and to New England.
