Possible Tornado, Coastal Flooding Advisory in Effect over Baltimore as the Week Starts

Baltimore is under a coastal flood advisory until Monday night, according to the National Weather Service. Along with this, there is a chance of storms and damaging winds on Monday, as well as a possible tornado event.

The area is being covered by large patches of dense fog, which could cause delays to morning commutes.

Up until 10 AM on Monday, flooding along the shore could happen in southern Baltimore County and Baltimore City. According to the NWS, low-lying areas could experience flooding of up to half a foot, especially during high tide.

This afternoon, a cold front will pass through, bringing with it showers and thunderstorms that could produce up to 3 inches of rain and create a risk of flash flooding. A flood watch is in effect for portions of the counties of Anne Arundel, Howard, Carroll, Montgomery, Harford, Baltimore, and Prince George's.

An advisory for coastal flooding is in place in Annapolis until 9 PM. Monday's high tide was 3 feet above average at 7:15 AM, flooding the City Dock parking lot. Minor flooding is also being caused by the Severn River.

As of 9:12 PM on Sunday, flooding was occurring at the end of Thames Street in Fells Point, and water was almost completely covering the promenade at the dragon boat dock in the Inner Harbor. By 8 PM on Sunday, the Baltimore region had accumulated a little bit more than an inch of rain.

With heavy rain predicted for Monday afternoon through the evening, additional flooding for the area is possible.

The NWS warned on Sunday that thunderstorms expected on Monday could increase the chance of a tornado or strong winds. The storm may produce a waterspout as it crosses the Chesapeake Bay.

Other than showers before 9 AM and then thunderstorms after 3 PM, the forecast calls for cloudy skies before becoming mostly sunny with a high of 86. After midnight on Monday, showers are also probable, with up to an inch of rain predicted.

After a chance of showers Tuesday morning, the rest of the week is expected to be sunny with highs in the 70s and 80s, the Baltimore Sun reports.

10-Day Forecast for Baltimore

The next ten days for Baltimore will have partly cloudy to sunny skies. Temperatures will play around the high 70s to the low 80s, except Monday to Wednesday next week, September 19 to 21 when temperatures are expected to reach 86 to 88 degrees.

The Weather Channel data also shows that the 100% chance for thunderstorms today will wane through the night and lower drastically to 16% tomorrow, September 13.

Health Impacts of Today's Weather

AccuWeather data shows that there is a low concentration of tree pollen and mold in the atmosphere today. However, those affected by ragweed pollen, grass pollen, dust, and dander, should take extra precautions as air quality reports show moderate to extremely high concentrations of these allergens.

People with migraine don't need to be worried today. However, those affected by arthritis, pressure, common cold, flu, and asthma should be on guard today as the weather and temperature might trigger symptoms.
