For Emma Watson, futuristic fashion means sustainable clothing. For the first time, a celebrity walked the red carpet wearing a dress made of recycled water bottles, which is one of the boldest and most fashionable moves by a Hollywood celebrity to promote environmental conservation.

The Met Gala is a red-carpet fund raising event for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City. Every year there's a different theme and the gala attendees usually arrived cloaked in expensive dresses in accordance with the theme.

This year, Manus x Machina: Fashion in the Age of Technology is the theme of the MET Gala; it is the fusion of technology and fashion. The famous feminist, activist and actress had the most environment-friendly interpretation of what a futuristic dress is. She wore a dress made of recycled water bottle which she co-created with Calvin Klein and EcoAge.

In an exclusive interview with CNN, Emma Watson said "I made a choice last year that I would only wear sustainable fashion on the red carpet." That's because she recognized that the fashion industry also has its awful effect on the environment.

Emma Watsons' dress is a creation made from recycled plastic bottles, it can be worn in many different ways and can be combined with other pieces of clothing. Sarah Slutsky said "this 5 piece look is created from 3 fabrics woven from yarns all made from recycled plastic bottles". Plastic bottles are one of the number one pollutants because they're not biodegradable. Slutsky added in an Instagram post "this beautiful look was designed with the intention to be repurposed for future use; the pants can be worn on their own, the train can be used for another red carpet."

The actress proved that by wearing sustainable pieces of clothing she can be both fashionable and a trendsetter with the help of Eco-Age a company which promotes sustainable materials. Eco-Age is a group currently encouraging Hollywood celebrities to participate in their green fashion campaign called the "Green Carpet Challenge" and it looks like it's not just Emma Watson who's up for the challenge.

They said that various high-end brands have responded to their campaign and have started to produce sustainable fashion pieces including Gucci, Chopard, Stella McCartney and Narciso Rodriguez. "Quite a breakthrough moment in global fashion, as none of the designers or brands had previously embraced a sustainable vision in their collections. "

According to Emma, the environment will benefit from futuristic concepts and the partnership between technology and fashion by producing eco-friendly and sustainable clothing pieces. She also supports a movement where a person is encouraged to only buy clothing pieces if it can be worn 30 times, called the #30Wears campaign.
