At a recent talk at the University of Alberta, in Canada, NASA planetary scientist Dr. Alan Stern announced that the space agency will speak about an "amazing" discovery later this week.

Stern is principal investigator on the New Horizons Pluto mission, and he says that so far the agency has only worked out 10 percent of the findings about Pluto and its moons, as the Guardian reported.

He said at that talk, "NASA won't let me tell you what we're going to tell you on Thursday. It's amazing," according to The Independent (U.K.). We recently reported on new images from Pluto, including the "snake skin" pattern of certain mountains.

Stern also observed that Pluto is a world that "is alive," reported the Independent. "It has weather, it has hazes in the atmosphere, active geology... Every week I am floored."

This year's discoveries have included flowing water on Mars, the earth-like Kepler 452b, and the beginning of the wealth of information from Pluto.

As Stern said, "2015 will be a year in textbooks forever," as the year in which mankind discovered so much about its solar system.
